WARDOGS Factions — LONESTAR, VALKYRA & MANTICORE
Faction identities confirmed by BULKHEAD (February 2026) · gameplay differences unconfirmed
Most shooters put two teams on a map. WARDOGS puts three — and that's not a cosmetic choice. A two-way fight settles into a front line; a three-way fight can't, because pushing hard on one enemy exposes your flank to the other. Your faction is which third of that triangle you belong to.
The Three Factions
LONESTAR
Western paramilitary heavy-hitters. The NATO-flavored default pick for new players.
VALKYRA
Seeks to restore the Soviet People's Republic. Eastern-bloc equipment and aesthetic.
MANTICORE
The Kingdom of Persia's shadow army — the third wildcard in every fight.
Identities and allegiances come straight from BULKHEAD's own lore posts; the war itself is set in Kolchia, fought over PV-1, a rare resource said to have fuelled decades of Eurasian conflict.
Do Factions Play Differently?
Honest answer: not in any way that's been confirmed. As of Season 1 Early Access there's no evidence of faction-specific weapons, stats, spawn advantages or economy differences — everyone buys from the same catalogue with the same persistent cash. Community discussion keeps asking the question, which tells you the in-game distinction is currently identity, not mechanics. If a patch changes that, this page updates.
Which Faction Should You Pick?
- Where's your squad? Faction choice is mostly logistics — being on the same team as your friends matters more than the emblem.
- Balance the triangle. The strongest faction at any moment is the one both others aren't focused on. If queue lets you see team balance, the underdog side is where bodies are worth more.
- Don't overthink it. There's no progression locked behind factions in the current build — you're not making a career decision.
Factions and the Three-Way Fight
The practical implication of three factions shows up everywhere: at towers (the team you just took one from will come back — and the third team knows it), in the Control Zone (two factions grinding each other down just feeds the third points), and in squad play (watch the flank that "nobody is on" — that's exactly where the third team is). See playing with friends for how organized squads exploit the triangle.
FAQ
- Does your faction matter?
- Narratively yes; mechanically, no confirmed differences in Season 1. Pick by squad and preference.
- Can you switch factions?
- Faction assignment behavior has varied across builds — check the queue screen in the current client. Between matches, nothing locks you to a side.
- Is one faction winning more?
- Match outcomes depend on who's organized, not on the emblem. A squad using voice and transport beats a stacked-but-silent faction.
